ウェイド＝ブラウン市長：堺市といえば『シマノ』はご存じですよね。
樋口：もちろんです。最も有名な堺の自転車メーカーです。そうか! サイクルスポーツも人気ですよね。堺でも大会があります。
ウェイド＝ブラウン市長：ウェリントン市は自転車（マウンテンバイク）を楽しむ人が非常に多くて、『マウンテンバイクの首都』と呼ばれているんです(笑)
樋口：それは知りませんでした(笑)
狭間副市長：自転車を活かしたまちづくりや交流事業も展開していきたいものです。ウェイド＝ブラウン市長ご自身も自転車好きですよね。堺市に滞在されている間に、空き時間を利用してご夫婦で自転車を借りて町を巡られることも予定されてるそうです。
ウェイド＝ブラウン市長：はい（笑）
樋口：自転車にのったウェイドブラウン市長ご夫妻を目撃する堺市民もいるかもしれませんね（笑）
ウェイド＝ブラウン市長：2012年にはウェリントン市で『日本祭』が開催され、3万人のお客様がいらっしゃいました。堺からもパフォーマンスの方が来られてとても素晴らしかったんです。また、ギネスへの挑戦で、堺の『タマノイ酢』さんにも協力していただいて60mのお寿司を巻きました。私も一緒に巻いたんですよ。
樋口：市長自らですか、素晴らしいですね
Mayor Wade-Brown: As for Sakai city, you know Shimano, don’t you?
Higuchi: Of course! Shimano is the most famous cycle makers in Sakai. Oh! Cycling is popular in Wellington, too. We have a cycling competition in Sakai.
Mayor Wade-Brown: Mountain biking is very popular among the people in Wellington. And so, it is called the mountain biking capital.
Higuchi : I haven’t heard of it.
Vice mayor Hazama: We would like to leverage bicycles to expand the town planning and exchange programs. I heard that Mayor Wade-Brown likes riding bicycles. It has been planned that Mayor Wade-Brown looks around the towns with her husband riding bicycle during her stay.
Mayor Wade-Brown: Yes (smiling)
Higuchi : Some people might see the Mayor Wade-Brown and her husband riding a bicycle.
Mayor Wade-Brown: In 2012, Japan festival was held in Wellington, and it was visited by 30,000 people. The performers from Sakai were fantastic. One of the events cooperated by Tamanoi-Su in Sakai “Challenge to Guinness Record” we winded up the Sushi for 60 maters. I enjoyed that event!
Higuchi: Did you wind up Sushi? That’s wonderful.
