工夫は牛舎にも
いよいよ原野さんの案内で牛舎に向かいます。庭先で寝ていた飼い犬の老シェパードが私たちを見つけるとよたよたと近づいてきて匂いを嗅ぎ、原野さんの後を追いかけて牛舎の中へ。牛も犬も互を気にせずのんきな様子です。
牛舎の屋根は銀色に輝いていますが、この銀色の屋根にも秘密がありました。
「化粧品メーカーが開発した素材で太陽光を反射して中は涼しいんですよ」
Finally, we headed for the cattle barn under Harano’s guidance. I saw the roof on the barn shining with silver but came to know that the roof itself has a secret as well.
“Inside of the barn is cool because the roof developed by a cosmetic marker bounces the sunshine.”
原野さんがこの牛舎を建てたのは30年ほど前。
夏場の食欲減退は牛には大敵ですから、牛舎を涼しく保つことで、牛を健康に保つことが期待できまるのです。
原野さんの取り組みは、食の改善に先立って、居住環境の改善があったのです。
ウメビーフ誕生は、「梅を食べさせたら牛が美味しくなった」という単純なものではなく、30年にもわたる原野さんの地道で長い努力の積み重ねが実った結果だと言えるのでしょう。
銀色に輝く牛舎の屋根裏を覗くと、たっぷりと藁が積んであり、伝統的な田舎の家畜小屋を思わせる様子でした。
牛舎に入ると牛の大きな頭と目がこちらを向きます。
「人懐っこいよ」
原野さんは軽くなでたり、巨体をぽんぽんと叩きます。丁度牛舎に差し込む光加減のいい撮影スポットがあり、カメラマンが牛とのツーショットをお願いすると、
「いいけど、こいつは人見知りするからなぁ」
と原野さんの言葉通り、その牛は照れたのかそっぽを向きます。
ウメビーフの秘密はここにもありました。牛一頭一頭の個性まで良く知る原野さんだからこそ、牛の健康を保ち美味しいウメビーフが出来るんでしょうね。
How “Ume Beef” has been made? It cannot be said easily such as “Japanese apricot made beef delicious” but the results of Mr. Harano’s steady efforts over 30 years.
Lots of rice straws were seen in the attic of the barn and this scene is just like a cattle shed of countryside. The cattle having a big head and eyes turned around and looked at us, when we stepped in the barn.
“Cattle are friendly” They were acting freely. Our cameraman asked Mr. Harano to take a picture with cattle. “It is ok, but she is shay” The cattle turned away as Mr. Harano said. I found one of the secrets of “Ume Beef” in there. Mr. Harano knows the details of the characteristic of each cattle.
